Types of original art
- Original page: a published or unpublished page of panels, usually ink on board, often larger than the printed page.
- Original cover: the artwork used for an album or magazine cover.
- Original drawing or colour drawing: a standalone illustration, sometimes a commission or dedication.
- Print: a reproduction, even when signed and numbered, and not original art.
What to check before buying
- Dimensions: most pieces here are between about A4 (21 x 29.7 cm) and 50 cm.
- Whether the page was published, and in which album or issue; the listing usually names the series and page number.
- Traces of the production process, such as correction fluid, pasted-on lettering and blue pencil, which are normal on original pages.
- Any documentation, such as a signature or dedication, and what the photos show of it.

What is an original comic page?
An original comic page is the physical artwork an artist drew for a printed comic, usually in ink on board or heavy paper, and often larger than the printed version. It is unique, unlike a print or poster. Signs of the working process, such as pencil marks, correction fluid and pasted lettering, are normal and part of its character.
Is a signed print the same as original art?
No. A print, including a silkscreen or giclée, is a reproduction made in multiple copies, even when it is signed and numbered by the artist. Original art is the one-off drawing or painting made by hand. Listings here state the item type, such as original page, original drawing or print, so check it before buying.
How should original comic art be stored?
Keep it flat, away from direct sunlight and damp, ideally in an acid-free folder or frame with UV-filtering glass. Ink and correction fluid can fade or yellow with light exposure, and pasted lettering can loosen in humid conditions. Handle pages by the edges with clean, dry hands.
