Equestrian interest: A Webb Corbet 'Derby 200' cut glass goblet Full lead crystal, the funnel bowl 'rock crystal' cut with flowers and foliage and engraved with the Derby 200 logo to one side and horse racing trophies to the other, dated 1979. In original presentation box. 22cm high Footnote: In 1979, the historic 200th running of the Epsom Derby took place on June 6 at the Epsom Downs Racecourse in England. The landmark bicentenary race was a major cultural and sporting event, commemorated widely through special Post Office first-day covers and an official souvenir book titled Derby 200: The Official Story of the Blue Riband of the Turf, signed by the Earl of Derby. The race was won in spectacular fashion by Troy, a 6/1 colt ridden by jockey Willie Carson, trained by Major Dick Hern, and owned by Sir Michael Sobell and Lord Weinstock. Condition: Glass in near mint condition. Box good with minor/negligible signs of age.
